Welcome to the homepage of the Soil & Water Lab!
We are a dynamic and innovative research group in Cornell University's Department of Biological and Environmental Engineering located in Riley Robb Hall. Our broad mission is to improve the understanding of physical, chemical, and biological processes related to water flow with the ultimate goal of improving and protecting water resources and ecological systems in the Northeastern U.S., the location of the lab's primary infrastructure, as well as throughout the world in socially conscious ways. Our research spans in scope from molecules to continents, with particular emphasis on hillslope and watershed scales. We consider the spectrum of interdisciplinary basic and applied research questions and are committed to developing water resource tools that are scientifically valid and useable within the appropriate environmental, social, and economic contexts. We conduct research with a suite of chemical analysis tools, a local computer network with GIS and computational software, rain simulators, soil sampling and analysis equipment, and a large array of field apparatuses.
